Hyderabad: With kite-flying set to intensify this week, Hyderabad police have intensified enforcement against the deadly Chinese manja, stepping beyond seizures and raids to directly engage with children and families.

City police commissioner V.C. Sajjanar directed officers to counsel minors and students, stressing that the deadly string, though popular among kite flyers, has left many injured and even claimed lives.
On Sunday, traffic cops were seen in Nampally and other localities speaking to young kite flyers, explaining how the sharp synthetic thread can slice through flesh and cause accidents. “Miyaa, yeh patang ka maamla nahin hai, yeh zindagi aur maut ka scene hai. Chinese manja ko seedha No bolo. Patang phir udegi, par agar jaan gayi toh wapas nahin aati,” Sajjanar said in a social media post, urging parents to join the awareness drive.

West zone task force arrested six persons for betting on playing cards late on Saturday night during a raid a house in Vengal Raonagar. Banjara Hills ACP S. Venkat Reddy said they had been handed over to Madhuranagar police for investigation. Around `6,100 was seized from the accused who were later produced before a magistrate.

18-Month-Old Girl Found Dead in Yapral Forest; Police Probe Cause

The body of a one-and-a-half-year-old girl was found in a forested area at Yapral on Sunday. The police, informed by a passer-by, said the infant had visible minor injuries on the forehead and abdomen, and damage was noticed around the mouth.
She was found wearing a red T-shirt, red track pants and a blue jerkin. Police after a preliminary inspection shifted the body to Gandhi Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.
An official said Deccan Chronicle that the body had not decomposed. “We checked with neighbouring police stations and confirmed that no missing child complaints matching the description have been reported so far. We will examine CCTV footage to trace who abandoned the baby.”
The officer said the exact cause of death, including whether smothering or sexual assault was involved can only be determined after the postmortem. A case is registered and further investigation is underway.

Hyderabad Traffic Police Book 404 for Drunk Driving in Two-Day Special Drive

The Hyderabad traffic police booked 404 motorists for drunk driving during a two-day special drive on January 9 and 10, including 349 riding two-wheelers. This high number was recorded after the crackdown on drunk driving on New Year’s Eve. At the higher end, 23 drivers had blood alcohol content of 201-250, nine between 251 and 300 and 12 above 300.
The traffic police reiterated that there would be zero tolerance towards drunken driving and that such special drives would continue. Commuters have been requested to cooperate in the interest of public safety, a press release issued by D Joel Davis, joint commissioner, city traffic police.

Two Held in Nalgonda with 4.5 kg Ganja; Plans for Synthetic Drug Hub Foiled

The Telangana EAGLE Force, in coordination with the Nalgonda police, arrested Syed Majid Hussain and Mohammad Sohail Ali for selling ganja and seized 4.5 kg of contraband from them. The duo was trying to sell ganja in Nalgonda town and Mallepally. The duo had procured ganja from an unidentified supplier from Odisha through Instagram.
They had allegedly planned to smuggle synthetic drugs and supply them in the twin cities and other districts, using Nalgonda as a hub. EAGLE Force director Sandeep Shandilya said the accused were arrested near the IT Tower in Nalgonda district before they could supply synthetic drugs.
