HYDERABAD: A 35-year-old private employee suffered a severe muscle tear on his arm after riding into a strand of banned Chinese Manja on the Kothaguda flyover in Gachibowli. Police said the victim, K. Suryateja, a senior project manager in a private interior designing firm, was returning home when the lethal thread slashed his bicep.

His friend Shiva, riding behind him, found Suryateja bleeding profusely and, with locals, rushed him to a nearby private hospital. Police recorded his statement and registered a case against unknown persons involved in the sale and use of the manja.

“Suryateja will now have to undergo surgery as his muscle was torn off and the cut is nearly 15 inches long,” his friend Vishal told Deccan Chronicle.

This is the third such incident reported in the week and the sixth since the Sankranti season began. On January 9, a man suffered serious injuries on the Amberpet flyover, while on January 8, a four-year-old boy in Metpally required 20 stitches on his neck. Officials said a crackdown on sales continues, with 345 bobbins seized and one arrest made in Vattepally.
