CEO Pushes For Secure Voter Register Access
The Telangana CEO outlined practical mechanisms adopted by election authorities, including online voter-lookup services, controlled-access kiosks and limited-detail voter lists, to make information available in secure and user-friendly formats: Reports
HYDERABAD: The Telangana Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) C. Sudarshan Reddy on Wednesday said that easy yet secure access to voter registers is central to electoral transparency and public trust, while cautioning that openness must be balanced with strong data-protection safeguards.
Speaking at the India International Conference on Democracy and Election Management (IICDEM-2026), Reddy said voters, political parties and civil society organisations rely on accurate and timely voter information to verify personal details, plan electoral activities and monitor the integrity of elections.
In his presentation on “Ease of Access to the Voter Register”, the Telangana CEO outlined practical mechanisms adopted by election authorities, including online voter-lookup services, controlled-access kiosks and limited-detail voter lists, to make information available in secure and user-friendly formats.
Reddy said technology-enabled voter services have helped reduce grievances, improve accuracy in electoral rolls and strengthen citizen confidence in the electoral process. Well-designed access frameworks, he noted, promote meaningful participation and oversight while protecting personal data in line with democratic standards.
The session, moderated by Reddy, featured presentations by election officials and experts from Suriname and Mexico, academicians from Hyderabad and representatives of the Election Commission of India. Discussions focused on comparative international practices and policy approaches to voter-register access.
IICDEM-2026 has brought together nearly 100 delegates from over 70 countries to deliberate on global best practices, innovations and challenges in election management, with multiple thematic sessions and bilateral meetings scheduled over three days.
