KARIMNAGAR: The Central government has granted administrative approval for a state-of-the-art synthetic athletics track at Jammikunta mandal in Karimnagar district, marking a major boost to sports infrastructure in North Telangana.
Under the Khelo India scheme, the ministry of youth affairs and Sports has sanctioned Rs 6.5 crore for the project, following the initiative taken by Union minister of state for home affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar.
The project includes a 400-metre, four-lane synthetic track built to World Athletics standards at the Government Degree College grounds within Jammikunta Municipality. The facility is expected to benefit rural athletes from Karimnagar and neighbouring districts by providing access to international-standard training infrastructure.
Welcoming the approval, Sanjay said the track would help identify and nurture local talent. He urged the State government to adhere to Central guidelines and ensure speedy completion of the project. Officials said the Bhumi Puja for the works would be held shortly.
The project is part of a broader effort to strengthen sports facilities in rural areas and enable young athletes to compete at national and international levels.
