Cantonment CEO Inspects VR Hospitals Amid Allegations of Violations
The inspection follows the death of a patient who had been admitted with stomach pain
Hyderabad: Authorities have begun inspection of hospitals in the Cantonment area which are operating without proper approvals. Following a formal complaint from Cantonment Board civilian member Ramakrishna, CEO Madhukar Naik led an inspection at the VR Multi-speciality Hospitals in Bowenpally.
Accompanied by chief planner Phani Kumari, the CEO examined crucial documents, including the hospital’s permission papers, building approvals, trade licence, and tax details. The hospital management was instructed to submit all relevant paperwork at the board office by Thursday.
The inspection follows the recent death of a patient who had been admitted with stomach pain. His family had raised suspicions over the circumstances of his death, leading to an official complaint. The health department and the police are investigating the incident, and now the Cantonment Board has stepped in, an official told Deccan Chronicle.
“If the hospital is found to be operating without valid approvals, strict action will be taken,” CEO Madhukar Naik said.
The surprise inspection has sent shockwaves through other hospitals in the Cantonment area that may be running without proper licences. According to a source, internal audits have already revealed dozens of unauthorised hospitals, and action against them is expected soon.
Board member Ramakrishna, who initiated the probe, stressed that hospitals must uphold public health standards. “Hospitals exist to save lives, not endanger them. I wrote to the CEO urging action, and this is just the beginning. If violations are found, hospitals will be given a chance to rectify them; otherwise, strict measures will follow,” he warned.
