CA Student Arrested For ₹90-Lakh Cyber Fraud
Police said Satyam’s father runs a mobile repair shop, which he allegedly misused by unlocking stolen phones and sending them with new SIM cards to Malik: Reports
KARIMNAGAR: Rajanna Sircilla police on Tuesday arrested a 26-year-old chartered accountancy (CA) student from West Delhi for allegedly duping several people of ₹90 lakh through cyber fraud in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
Superintendent of police Mahesh B. Gite said the accused, identified as Satyam, colluded with Salim Malik of Kadapa, who is currently in jail, to commit cyber fraud for easy money to lead a lavish lifestyle.
Police said Satyam’s father runs a mobile repair shop, which he allegedly misused by unlocking stolen phones and sending them with new SIM cards to Malik.
The duo, posing as health department officials, used to make calls to victims with false claims of refunding hospital expenses. They would send a fraudulent link to the victims’ mobiles and trick them into opening it and entering their UPI PINs. Then, they would steal money from their accounts, the SP said.
After receiving complaints from two victims -- Dhamma Rajireddy of Mustabad mandal, who lost ₹46,000, and Bolgam Prem Kumar of Vemulawada, who lost ₹10,000, the police registered a case and started an investigation.
Using advanced technology, a cyber team led by sub-inspector Junaid tracked Satyam to West Delhi and arrested him.
The SP appreciated the efforts of the cyber-crime team in catching the accused.
