Hyderabad: A burning vehicle rolled into a petrol bunk near Annajiguda on Thursday, endangering people stationed there as well as the establishment itself. It took a brave effort by some police personnel who had reached the staff and petrol bunk staff to avert a tragedy.
IT Pocharam police said that the van was parked on a service road near the petrol bunk. The vehicle caught fire suddenly and the driver rushed to the fuel station seeking help. Staff deployed extinguishers, using six in succession. While operating the seventh extinguisher, the blaze intensified.
At that moment, the vehicle began moving, possibly its hand brake was not applied, and rolled into the bunk premises.
Petrol bunk workers and IT Pocharam police personnel, who had reached the spot, acted swiftly, pushing the burning van away from fuel dispensers to a safe distance. The vehicle was gutted, but no injuries were reported.
“The timely intervention prevented what could have been a major disaster,” a police official said, expressing relief. No case has been registered so far.
Student Ends Life After Losing Rs 1 lakh Online
Hyderabad: A 20-year-old degree student from Debbadaguda was found dead in his agricultural field, two days after losing about ₹1 lakh through an online betting platform, Kandukur police said on Friday.
The victim, identified as V. Vikram, was studying at a private college in Narayanguda while staying in a hostel. His brother, Srikanth, discovered him lying motionless in the field and rushed him for medical help. Vikram succumbed in the early hours of Thursday.
Police said Vikram had disclosed his financial loss before his death. In a video-recorded statement, he admitted to investing in online betting. “He partially revealed details of the app. We are verifying the platform,” officials noted.
Investigators suspect psychological distress caused by the monetary setback contributed to the alleged suicide. A formal complaint was lodged by his brother at Kandukur police station.
Police Investigate Barber's Murder
Hyderabad: Police are investigating the murder of a 24-year-old barber, Jampula Mahesh Kumar, whose body was found at an isolated spot in Kaveliguda, Shamshabad, early Thursday morning.
Kumar, a native of Venkatapur in Moinabad, had closed his shop the previous night, bought liquor, and headed to the secluded location. Investigators revealed that he was on a phone call for over an hour before the murder.
Authorities suspected the involvement of two men from Kumar’s village and were probing whether an alleged illicit relationship with the wife of one of the suspects may have been the motive. “We are analysing call detail records and other technical evidence. No arrests have been made so far, but preliminary inquiry points towards the suspicion of an affair,” said Shamshabad inspector K. Narender Reddy.
2 Hurt as Car Rams Bike
Hyderabad: Two persons were injured after a car rammed their two-wheeler on the Kandi bypass road in Shankarpally on Friday afternoon.
The accident occurred around 4.30 pm near a private school when the car, driven by Satish, a resident of Indrakaran, hit the bike from behind. The two-wheeler was travelling from Chevella towards Sangareddy at the time of the collision.
The riders, Cherukupalli Vishnu and Naveen of Moosapet, suffered severe injuries. Locals immediately alerted the police, and the victims were shifted to Sangareddy Government Hospital for treatment, police said.
Security Guard Dies in Road Mishap
Hyderabad: Security guard Nenavath Harichand, 36, was killed near Medchal on Thursday night after his bike rammed into a parked lorry at about 11.30 pm. Harichand, a resident of Muneerabad, was riding from his home to his workplace when the accident occurred. The lorry driver had not placed safety signages, police said. Harichand sustained a severe head injury and died on the spot. Petbasheerabad police reached the scene and shifted the body to Gandhi mortuary. case has been registered against the lorry driver, and further investigation is underway.
