B.Tech Student Dies By Suicide Due To 'Harassment By Faculty, Staff' At Vasavi College
Narsingi police identified the student as V. Shreya and said they had registered a case based on the complaint and launched an investigation.
Hyderadad:A 20-year-old second-year BTech died allegedly by suicide at her residence in Puppalguda leaving behind a two-page note alleging persistent targeting and harassment by faculty members, staff and fellow students at the Vasavi Engineering College, Narsingi police said.
Narsingi police identified the student as V. Shreya and said they had registered a case based on the complaint and launched an investigation.
According to police, a handwritten note recovered from the scene stated that Shreya was unable to bear the ‘personal targeting’ she faced after she was earlier booked for using a mobile phone in an examination hall. She claimed that despite admitting her mistake, faculty members continued to target and humiliate her.
In the note, Shreya alleged that a faculty member made derogatory remarks while she was on her way to write an examination and another faculty member sarcastically remarked that ‘another boy caught today while it was supposed to be her.’
She also claimed that a lecturer accused her of copying from another student during a laboratory external examination despite the two writing the examination in different sessions. She alleged in the suicide note that faculty members behaved rudely, while classmates had been spreading negativity against her for several months.
Shreya wrote that she felt she was not even being treated as a human being and apologised to her parents, brother and a faculty member whom she described as her only source of support. Police said the case is under investigation and action will be taken based on the findings.
