Hyderabad: The BRS on Saturday walked out of the Assembly’s Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting, protesting against what it called the government’s refusal to discuss what it called pressing issues, including urea shortage, the impact of the recent rain and floods and other urgent matters.

Former minister T. Harish Rao, who attended the meeting along with Vemula Prashant Reddy, said the party was opposed to restricting the two-day session to the Justice P.C. Ghose commission report on the Kaleshwaram project barrages.

“We asked that the session run for at least 15 days. Rain and floods have wreaked havoc. People have died, villages are cut off, roads washed away and electricity disrupted. These should be the first priority for the Legislature,” Harish Rao said.

He accused the Congress government of “running away from facing questions on problems confronting people.” He said the BRS was prepared to debate the Kaleshwaram project for as long as needed but insisted that the House also address public concerns.

Among other topics listed by the BRS were urea shortages, the spread of viral fevers such as malaria and dengue due to poor sanitation, fee reimbursement delays, allegations concerning the Chief Minister’s brothers as to the Fourth City project and Andhra Pradesh’s Polavaram-Banakacharla link project.
