Hyderabad: The BRS on Thursday slammed the state government over the police action of taking a farmer from Lagcharla village to a hospital in chains after he complained of chest pain. Party working president K.T. Rama Rao accused the police and the government of delaying taking the farmer, Heerya Nayak, to the hospital. When they did so, they did it in an absolutely inhumane manner by making him walk in chains.

Rama Rao urged the Chief Justice of Telangana High Court to take this issue up suo motu, and also requested the Governor to order an inquiry into the treatment of the farmer by the police. Rama Rao said two other farmers, Raghavendra and Basappa, who were among those arrested were also unwell with serious health conditions.

“Our party leader Patnam Narender Reddy, arrested in the same case, has serious health issues,” Rama Rao said.

He claimed that the farmers were subjected to third degree torture in police custody. When the families started complaining, the police warned them that they too will be booked and thrown into prison. “There is utter anarchy in Telangana and Revanth Reddy, holding the home portfolio, is fully responsible for the state of affairs,” Rama Rao said.
