Warangal: The BRS turned Elkathurthi into a sea of pink as thousands of supporters thronged the venue on Sunday to mark the party’s Silver Jubilee celebrations.
Crowds stretched several kilometers around the meeting grounds, with people standing in queues up to 5 km away. Folk performances, Telangana songs, and cultural dances energised the atmosphere as supporters waved pink flags, danced, and cheered in anticipation of BRS chief K. Chandrashekar Rao’s arrival. The crowd erupted with chants of "Jai KCR" and "Jai Telangana" as Rao reached the venue, creating a deafening roar.
Traffic in and around Elkathurthi came to a standstill, forcing many to abandon their vehicles and walk to the venue. Special convoys from across Telangana arrived early in the morning, with streets and villages decorated in party flags, posters, and festive arches. Some supporters even arrived via bullock carts, padayatras, and cycle rallies.
Organisers made elaborate arrangements to accommodate the massive crowd, setting up drinking water stations, buttermilk distribution points, temporary toilets, medical camps, and deploying six ambulances. A helpline number (9014206465) and a control command centre were also activated.
Despite the celebratory mood, attendees shared grievances over current issues. Banoth Srinu, a farmer from Mahbubabad district, lamented water scarcity and exclusion from the Rythu Bharosa scheme, recalling better days under the previous BRS rule. Rajeshwari from Siddipet praised the Congress government's free bus travel scheme for women but criticised delays in the promised pension hike. Mallesh from Karimnagar voiced concerns that free bus facilities mostly benefited urban dwellers rather than rural people. Meanwhile, Rakesh from Hanamkonda accused the Congress of abandoning its promise of an unemployment allowance.
A senior BRS leader described the Silver Jubilee event as more than a celebration, calling it a "strategic re-entry" for Chandrashekar Rao into active political leadership.
Security was tight at the venue, with 953 police personnel deployed under the supervision of Police Commissioner Sunpreet Singh to ensure smooth conduct of the event.
