BRS MLA Confronts Congress Leader Over Personal Attacks
Naik, a leader of the ruling Congress government, had no right to challenge her identity as the elected representative of an Adivasi constituency: BRS MLA Kova Laxmi
ADILABAD: BRS MLA Kova Laxmi on Friday criticised Assembly constituency in-charge Shyam Naik for resorting to personal attacks during meetings instead of engaging with her politically. She accused him of disrupting proceedings without any official protocol and of provoking her by questioning her authority as the local MLA. During Thursday’s meeting, she even hurled water bottles at Naik in protest.
Speaking to the media, Laxmi noted that Naik, a leader of the ruling Congress government, had no right to challenge her identity as the elected representative of an Adivasi constituency. She also reminded him that his wife, Rekha Naik, twice elected on a BRS ticket, now criticises the party leadership despite having advanced her career on BRS chief K. Chandrashekar Rao’s patronage.
Laxmi further alleged that there was no police presence at the ration-card distribution meeting held at the district headquarters, leaving her vulnerable when Naik’s supporters attempted to attack her. She accused Naik of corruption during his tenure as a transport department officer, claiming he amassed substantial wealth through illicit means.
Meanwhile, Thudum Debba state president Kotnak Vijay condemned Naik’s derogatory remarks and personal insults against the Adivasi MLA. Vijay warned Naik that he would face consequences if he did not change his conduct, and alleged that Naik’s actions were a deliberate attempt to provoke Adivasi communities. He predicted that the Adivasis would ultimately unite to drive Shyam Naik out of the constituency.
