Hyderabad: In the municipal election results declared across Telangana, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) was restricted to just 13 municipalities, marking a significant setback for the party. BRS failed to open its account in Kosgi, Makthal, Dharmapuri and Bainsa municipalities.
In Dharmapuri, all 15 wards were won by the congress and also the party has secured all 16 wards in Kosgi.
In 13 municipalities — Yellareddy, Yadagirigutta, Vaddepally, Sultanabad, Peddapalli, Nandikonda, Manthani, Madhira, Kodangal, Haliya, Choppadandi, Bhoothpur and Atmakur — BRS candidates managed to win only one ward each.
Out of the total 2,582 wards in 116 municipalities where results were declared on Friday, Congress won 1,347 wards and secured control of 66 municipalities. BRS won 717 wards and retained 13 municipalities. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured 261 wards, while Independents won 256 wards.
As no party achieved a clear majority in 36 municipalities, these civic bodies have resulted in hung verdicts.
A notable outcome was in Mahabubnagar district, where the All India Forward Bloc captured Vaddepally municipality. In Jagtial, supporters of senior Congress leader Jivan Reddy contested as Independents and won the highest number of wards.
