Hyderabad:The BRS has questioned the silence of the Congress government on the problems at the Manjeera and Singur dams where danger bells have been rung by the state dam safety organisation, and demanded immediate steps be taken to protect the dams.

In a statement, BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao said the Congress which made a hue and cry just because two pillars at the Medigadda barrage developed some problems and sank a little, is completely silent despite the very serious nature of problems and the threats these post to Manjeera and Singur dams.

“Both the Congress and the BJP which rushed to blame the BRS over the Kaleshwaram project are silent on the problems at these two dams. This yet again shows how those two parties are working together for political gains and ends, and not for the people. Further, the setting up of commissions only with the aim to target BRS shows the depths the Congress is willing to go to,” Rama Rao said.

He also said the government also dismissed the breaking of ropes at gate 9 of the Jurala project as nothing of consequence. “Despite the knowledge that ropes at other gates of the project are also weak, nothing is being done. There cannot be one rule for Medigadda and another for other projects. The Congress government must take immediate steps to protect and repair irrigation assets in the state,” Rama Rao demanded.
