Nalgonda: Revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy on Tuesday urged the people to teach a lesson to the BRS leaders who would approach them with looted public money during the elections.

Distributing new ration cards to beneficiaries at a programme held in Thirumalayapalem, Khammam district, he said that the Congress' allegations of corruption against the previous BRS government were gradually being proven true.

The 665-page report of the Justice P.C. Ghose commission, which conducted an inquiry into irregularities in the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation scheme for 15 months, also confirmed the corruption of the former BRS regime.

He alleged that the BRS would again use the looted public money for elections and approach the people. At that time, he said, the people should teach the BRS a lesson. He sought the people's support for the Congress in the upcoming elections.

The minister assured that new ration cards and Indiramma houses would be sanctioned to all eligible families, irrespective of political affiliations. Families who did not receive Indiramma houses in the first phase need not worry, as they would be covered in the subsequent phases, he added.

Srinivas Reddy also assured that the 30-bed hospital at Thirumalayapalem would be upgraded to a 50-bed hospital at a cost of Rs 77.5 crore.

While distributing bicycles from the PSR Trust to students at ZP High School in Yedulapuram, he expressed confidence that Young India Integrated Residential Schools would usher in a new era in the state's education system.

Recalling that the PSR Trust — set up in memory of his parents — has been distributing bicycles to girl students of Classes 8 to 10 in the Palair Assembly constituency, he assured that bicycles would also be distributed to students pursuing Intermediate courses from the next academic year.

Stating that the Congress government had accorded top priority to education, he pointed out that Rs 470 crore had been spent by the state government on education in a short span of 18 months.
