Waranagal: When the Congress government, a staunch advocate for public welfare, passed the law granting 42 per cent reservations for BCs in education, employment, and local bodies, the BRS and BJP allegedly conspired to block the BC Reservations Bill in Delhi, revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said.

Accompanied by Warangal West MLA Naini Rajendar Reddy, the minister inaugurated the double-bedroom houses at Ambedkar Nagar, near Sridevi Asian Mall in Balasamudram, and handed them over to the beneficiaries at a grand event held at Kaloji Kalakshetram on Friday.

Speaking at the ceremony, Srinivas Reddy said the Congress government under Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is tirelessly working for the upliftment of the poor, introducing numerous welfare schemes. In contrast, he criticised the previous BRS administration for spending public funds on constructing houses but failing to distribute any to the needy over its ten-year tenure.

He accused the BRS of diverting attention from the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project corruption scandal by attacking the Congress government and finding fault with the Justice Ghosh committee’s report.

Under the Indiramma Housing Scheme, the Congress government is committed to distributing homes to all eligible poor families in four phases and aims to construct around two million new houses statewide over the next three years. Other initiatives include issuing new ration cards to 600,000 people, adding 1.7 million names to existing cards, providing a Rs 500 bonus to paddy farmers, and depositing Rs 9,000 crore under the Rythu Bharosa scheme.

MLA Rajendar Reddy praised the festive atmosphere of the house-distribution programme. Each double-bedroom house, valued at approximately Rs 60 lakh, was allocated through a computerised randomisation process.

He noted that the previous BRS government had left many projects incomplete, but the current administration has not only finished those works but also ensured all basic amenities. The handovers coincided with the auspicious Vara Lakshmi Vratham.

Finally, he urged minister Srinivas Reddy to identify additional government land in areas such as Shayampet for constructing more Indiramma double-bedroom houses for slum-dwelling families, assuring that new homes would have full access to drinking water, drainage, and electricity.
