Bonalu Celebrations: Governor Couple Offer Special Prayers At Sri Ujjaini Mahankali Temple

Hyderabad: Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma and his wife Sudha Dev Varma offered special prayers at the historic Sri Ujjaini Mahankali temple in Secunderabad on Friday morning as part of Ashadamasam Bonalu celebrations.

The Governor couple offered bonam and silk clothes to the Goddess Sri Mahankali and offered prayers. He interacted with the temple priests to know the history of the temple. Accompanied by the temple priests, Backward Classes Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar received the Governor.

Speaking on the occasion, Ponnam Prabhakar said the bonalu celebrations started in the city on June 26. The first bonam was offered to Sri Jagadamba Mahankali at the temple atop Golconda fort. This was followed by ‘Kalyanostavam’ of Sri Renuka Yellamma at Balkampet temple on July 1.

The main bonalu celebrations at Sri Ujjaini Mahankali temple would be conducted on July 13 and 14. He said the Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy would participate in the celebrations on July 13. On its part, the State government in coordination with the district administration including GHMC, police and endowments department made elaborate arrangements for the smooth conduct of the two-day celebrations.

“We made all arrangements for the successful conduct of the celebrations and the queue system was also ensured for the convenience of devotees who thronged from various parts of the State,” the Minister said.
