Boiled Chapattis Served to Goddess Godavari As Naivedyam
Hastinamadugu (Mancherial): Members of the Mesram clan prepared a unique dish by immersing chapatis in boiling water — without using any edible oil — and served it as Naivedyam to Goddess Godavari and devotees, according to Mesram Ganesh. The special offering was made during their annual pilgrimage, with all participants contributing brown rice (Dampudu Biyyam), jaggery, and dal for cooking.
Ganesh explained that the chapatis are “fried” in boiling water until they harden, after which they are served with jaggery to devotees. He added that each pilgrim’s contribution of rice is used to prepare a communal meal, emphasising the importance of collective effort during this sacred ritual.
The clan members, who perform this traditional practice, ensure the surroundings remain clean by properly disposing of all waste. Younger and teenage members actively joined in, offering support to elders in cooking these special dishes and serving black tea to participants.
