HYDERABAD: The Telangana BJP has urged the Congress-led state government to take a clear and firm stand on Maharashtra’s reported move to merge 14 border villages from Telangana into its territory. In a statement on Friday, BJP Telangana chief spokesperson N.V. Subash said the issue was serious and called on Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to publicly clarify the government's stance and assert Telangana’s territorial integrity.

The demand follows a claim by Maharashtra revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule that his government had initiated the process to merge the villages, citing revenue records and stating that residents were registered voters of Maharashtra. “We have the documentation and have started the merger,” Bawankule stated.
Subash said it was the Telangana government’s duty to verify the legitimacy of Maharashtra’s claims, engage in dialogue with its counterpart, and most importantly, consult the residents of the affected villages. Media reports suggest that many villagers are opposed to the merger and wish to remain in Telangana.
