BJP To Press Drought Relief At All-Party Meet
It would place constructive suggestions before the government, keeping farmers’ welfare and drinking-water needs above politics: Reports
HYDERABAD: A BJP delegation will attend the state government’s all-party meeting on Wednesday to discuss the impact of El Niño, rainfall deficit and worsening drought in Telangana. The meeting will be held at the Secretariat. Acting on the directions of state BJP president N. Ramchander Rao, Legislature Party leader Aleti Maheshwar Reddy and MLC Malka Komuraiah will represent the party.
The BJP said its pressure over irrigation water shortage, power cuts, crop losses and drinking-water crisis had compelled the Congress government to convene the meeting. The delegation will demand that drought-hit mandals be declared without delay and compensation paid to affected farmers.
The party said it would place constructive suggestions before the government, keeping farmers’ welfare and drinking-water needs above politics. The meeting will discuss water conservation, irrigation power supply, crop planning and drought-prevention measures.
Preliminary assessments have identified 358 mandals as drought-affected, with 18 of 33 districts recording deficient rainfall. Groundwater conditions are critical in 324 mandals.
