Ramchander Rao— DC File

HYDERABAD: Defending the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of the electoral roll here, BJP Telangana state president N Ramchander Rao on Sunday accused the Congress of spreading “malicious propaganda” against constitutional institutions out of the fear of defeat.

At a press conference at the party’s headquarters, Rao said the SIR process was being carried out by the state government machinery and no voter’s name was deleted without field inquiries by the Election Commission of India (ECI). He clarified that merely filing Form‑7 applications did not lead to deletion of names, and that the provision existed only to weed out fake and duplicate entries. He also said no BJP booth-level agents (BLA‑1 or BLA‑2) had submitted any such applications.

Rao said the Congress could not accept that voters across the country have rejected it in three consecutive Lok Sabha elections and chosen Narendra Modi as Prime Minister for a third term. He alleged that the Congress still believed that the Prime Minister’s post belonged only to the Nehru–Gandhi family and was misleading people with “monarchical arrogance”.

He expressed anger over remarks by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, who had called all elections in the country a “farce” and demanded their cancellation. Rao said questioning the people’s mandate was an insult not just to voters but to Indian democracy itself.

The BJP leader also accused Rahul Gandhi and supporters like actor Prakash Raj of joining a conspiracy to erode public trust in independent bodies such as the Supreme Court, the President’s Office and the ECI. He warned that such attempts weaken democratic systems and harm the country’s integrity.

Rao mocked the Congress for reportedly praising the election systems when it won and blaming EVMs and the SIR when it lost. He predicted that “Congress‑Mukt Bharat” is almost complete and said the BJP will firmly oppose any effort to defame democratic institutions.
