Hyderabad: Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao on Monday urged people to be vigilant against what he called the Congress party’s “deceitful methods,” particularly regarding reservations for the Backward Classes (BCs) in the state.
Addressing BJP district-level workers in Peddapalli, Rao said the party had extended unconditional support to the Congress government’s proposal for forty-two per cent BC reservation in the Assembly but opposed allocating ten per cent of this quota to Muslims. He reiterated the BJP’s stance against religion-based reservations, asking, “If ten per cent is allocated to Muslims, what about the original BCs? They will be left with only 32 per cent.”
He accused the Congress of betraying the BC community by failing to implement promises made in its Kamareddy BC Declaration. Claiming the people of Telangana had endured “the corrupt rule of BRS and the anti-people governance of the Congress,” Rao said they were now ready to give the BJP a chance. He urged party cadres to work unitedly for victory in the upcoming local body elections.
Challenging Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to list his government’s achievements for BC welfare over the past 19 months, Rao alleged that the Congress was deceiving people in the name of caste and religion. He blamed the state government for a urea shortage in Peddapalli despite adequate central supplies, accusing it of enabling black marketing by supporting middlemen.
Rao averred that the Centre had invested about `20,000 crore in development projects in the Peddapalli constituency. He criticised the Chief Minister for protesting at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, calling it a “drama” to deflect from the state government’s inability to implement 42 per cent BC reservations and its attempt to blame the Centre.
Over 300 BRS and Congress workers, led by BRS leader Nalla Manohar Reddy, joined the BJP at the event and were welcomed by Rao. Earlier, he was received in Sultanabad and taken to the venue in a grand procession. Rao is on a three-day tour of Peddapalli, Mancherial and Komaram Bheem Asifabad districts to meet party members and supporters.
Meanwhile, BJP MLA and Assembly whip Dhan Pal Suryanarayana Gupta criticised the Congress’s ongoing Janahitha Padayatra, calling it a political stunt without genuine public backing. He accused the party of failing to fulfil key promises during its twenty months in power, including financial aid for women, pensions for the elderly, unemployment allowances and BC welfare schemes such as fee reimbursements and electric scooters for youth.
