HYDERABAD: BJP state general secretary Dr Kasam Venkateshwarlu alleged that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s visit to Osmania University was an exercise of self-praise devoid of genuine concern. He said Osmania University, cradle of the Telangana movement, deserved respect but accused Revanth Reddy of forgetting his controversial past, including ordering “armed attacks” on student activists.

The BJP leader questioned why the CM visited under heavy police security and barricades, suggesting fear of the very institution he claims to support. He alleged the Chief Minister’s promises of large financial assistance remain unfulfilled. He recalled earlier unfulfilled commitments—`100 crore by former CM KCR and `500 crore to Chakali Ailamma Women’s University—that were never released.

He highlighted severe staff shortages, saying over 66 per cent of posts in 12 Telangana universities remain vacant, along with thousands more in government colleges, which he attributed to Congress misgovernance.

He also condemned Revanth Reddy for glorifying past leaders like George Reddy and Gaddar, linked to violence and Naxalite ideology. He questioned the inclusion of Kancha Ilaiah, whom the BJP leader alleged was associated with urban Naxalism, on advisory committees. He called for transparency on the CM’s intentions.

Separately, BJP deputy floor leader Payal Shankar targeted TPCC working president Mahesh Goud over BC reservations, accusing him of favouring a 10 per cent Muslim quota under BC reservations while neglecting genuine BC communities. He said BCs form 52 per cent of the population but get only 32 per cent reservation after the Muslim allocation. He demanded that the full 42 per cent reservation be given exclusively to BCs.

Shankar also criticised Goud for calling BJP leader Bandi Sanjay “Deshmukh,” dismissing it as foolish. He described Sanjay as a true BC child fighting for the poor under the BJP principles.
