Adilabad: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organised a Maha Padayatra in Nirmal on Monday to counter the Congress and I.N.D.I.A. bloc’s campaign against special intensive revision (SIR) and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

BJP leaders asserted that the padayatra is aimed at protecting democracy in the country. Party leaders and cadres shouted slogans and carried national and party flags while walking through Nirmal town. A large number of people attended the event.

Addressing a gathering on the occasion, BJP Legislature Party floor leader and Nirmal MLA Aleti Maheshwar Reddy alleged that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is misleading people with false promises. He accused the state government of failing to fulfil the six guarantees announced in its election manifesto.

“A group of cockroaches can do nothing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has become the PM for a third time,” Maheshwar Reddy declared, describing Modi as a public icon respected by people across the country.

He charged that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is trying to protect three crore illegal votes of Rohingyas and Bangladeshi citizens. He rejected allegations that genuine voters are losing their votes during the SIR exercise.

Union minister of state for home affairs Bandi Sanjay maintained that the BJP is the only party capable of protecting the country. He questioned Rahul Gandhi over why the Congress had not opposed the SIR exercise during its rule.

“Citizens of Pakistan and Bangladesh cannot decide who becomes the Prime Minister of India,” Bandi thundered.

BJP state president N. Ramchander Rao accused the Congress of supporting illegal voters while campaigning against SIR. He asserted that people across the country are one with Narendra Modi.

Malkajgiri MP Etala Rajender declared that BJP would win the elections in Telangana under Ramchander Rao’s leadership. He maintained that duplicate and deceased voters are being removed through the SIR exercise.

Various speakers called on people to protect democracy, end anarchy, and mobilise public opinion against the Congress campaign against SIR.

Those who attended the event included BJP national general secretary and Telangana in-charge Sunil Bansal, Telangana co-in-charges Abhay Patil and Rekha Sharma, Adilabad MP Godam Nagesh, MLAs Rama Rao Patel, Payal Shankar, Palvai Harish Babu, Dhanpal Suryanarayana and Paidi Rakesh Reddy, and Nirmal district party president Ritesh Rathod, among others.
