Hyderabad: The BJP is aiming for at least 100 seats in the 2026 GHMC elections. It is also keeping a close watch on the civic body’s February 25 elections to the standing committee, which plays a key role in clearing funds for developmental projects.

The party is yet to take a call on whether to contest the standing committee elections or not. It is likely to decide on the issue during a meeting of GHMC floor members. The issue came up at a meeting chaired by the party’s state unit president G. Kishan Reddy.

The meeting decided to involve BJP corporators in the forthcoming elections to three MLC seats. Each corporator will be made a charge for one Assembly segment with the MLC constituency limits.

Kishan Reddy asked the corporators to strengthen the party at the booth level in the 24 Assembly segments given their importance in GHMC and the Assembly elections. He asked the participants to identify issues concerning people and stand with them in resolving the issue.

Later in the day, the BJP activists took out a rally from the Dr B.R. Ambedkar statue at Tank Bund to the party’s city office at Barkatpura to mark Lankala Deepak Reddy assuming charge as the party’s city president.

“Our activists must work hard and ensure that we unfurl the saffron flag at the GHMC head office by winning over 100 wards and the mayor’s post. The party activists must expose the secret deals between the Congress and MIM,” Kishan Reddy said.
