BJP Banking On BCs To Win Graduates MLC Seat
Dr. Vannala Venkataramana, a Padmashali, is a strong contender from BJP for the Khammam-Warangal-Nalgonda Graduates’ MLC seat.
Warangal:Bharatiya Janata Party appears to be banking on backward classes (BC) for winning the Khammam-Warangal-Nalgonda Graduates’ seat in the forthcoming elections to the State Legislative Council.
Party sources indicate that the BJP has almost finalised the name of Warangal-based Dr. Vannala Venkataramana as its MLC candidate. Only an official announcement is awaited.
Dr. Venkataramana is a practising doctor and BJP’s state spokesperson. His father, Vannala Sriramulu, previously served as the MLA from Wardhannapet. He being from the Padmashali community is expected to give him an advantage in the polls from the Graduates’ constituency.
Congress candidate Ramreddy Sarvotham Reddy has already begun his campaign. BRS is reportedly close to finalising Enugula Rakesh Reddy as its nominee.
A team of BJP leaders visited Warangal last week to hold discussions before finalising its candidate. Several leaders are said to have proposed Dr. Venkataramana’s name, though the name of Thoti Ravikumar from Nalgonda district also cropped up.
There are demands within the party circles that this time, Nalgonda district be given an opportunity to field the candidate in the MLC polls.
However, the BJP believes that apart from social equations, the candidate’s personal reputation, ability to fight for graduates’ issues, and ensure coordination within party cadres should be taken into consideration before finalising its nominee.
