Hyderabad: BJP state president N. Ramchander Rao on Monday alleged that the BRS was resorting to malice and personal attacks against BJP leaders out of fear, and accused the party of trying to defame its opponents for political mileage.

Speaking at a preparatory meeting at the BJP state headquarters, Rao said the political atmosphere had deteriorated due to defamation campaigns by the BRS. He pointed to continued attacks on Union minister Bandi Sanjay following a POSCO case against his son, alleging that BRS leaders were targeting BJP functionaries and their families through posters, social media and friendly media outlets. He claimed BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao was spearheading the campaign.

Rao accused the previous BRS regime of presiding over a sharp rise in crimes against women, citing NCRB data showing cases in Telangana rose from 14,147 in 2014 to 23,679 in 2023. He referred to incidents of rape, harassment and assault of minors, including the Nirmal Municipality case, and questioned the BRS’s moral right to speak on women’s rights and child safety.

He also criticised the party for not resigning despite allegations in the liquor scam involving KTR’s family members, and said the BRS was running a malicious campaign against the BJP fearing investigations into the Kaleshwaram project and Formula E‑race case.

Rao said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Mera Bharat – Mera Yogdaan” initiative reflected every citizen’s duty toward the nation, and urged party workers to participate in awareness programmes marking Modi’s 12 years in office, including events on World Environment Day and energy conservation.

He noted global oil shortages and rising fuel prices abroad, but said India had protected citizens from additional burden. He urged disciplined fuel use amid global uncertainties.

Calling environmental protection a collective responsibility, Rao asked people to support the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative and promote indigenous products.
