HYDERABAD: National Space Day, commemorating the successful soft landing of Isro’s Chandrayaan-3 mission on the Moon, was celebrated at the B.M. Birla Science Centre, Hyderabad, bringing together students, teachers, and space scientists.

The programme began with a quiz competition in the forenoon, which drew a large number of school and college students. Participants showcased their knowledge and passion for space science, competing enthusiastically for prizes.

Dr Y.V.N. Krishnamurthy, former director of the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC-Isro), Hyderabad, and Dr Seshagiri Rao Vellanki, former associate director of the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota (SDSC-SHAR, Isro) where present.

Dr Seshagiri Rao provided insights into Isro’s remarkable missions and a comprehensive overview of satellites. He explained the complexities of satellite constellations — with India planning one of them — and highlighted the latest advancements in space and satellite technologies. He also shared his vision for humanity’s future in space and outlined upcoming missions from Isro and other global space agencies.

An interactive session followed, during which students asked a series of thoughtful questions on various aspects of space technologies, reflecting their keen interest and curiosity.
