BIE Cuts Inter Syllabus, Reduces Topics In Math, Chem

The BIE officials said the Educational Research and Training wing has removed some topics in mathematics 1B that are difficult and it would be added in the Math 1A syllabus, balancing both papers.

Hyderabad: In a bid to ease the academic burden on students, the Telangana Board of Intermediate Education (TGBIE) has revised the Intermediate first year syllabus for the 2026-27 academic year.

The BIE officials said the Educational Research and Training wing has removed some topics in mathematics 1B that are difficult and it would be added in the Math 1A syllabus, balancing both papers. They noted that students find the 1B subject more difficult and the pass percentage is also low in it. The examination for mathematics will be held for 60 marks and 15 marks for the internals and Arts streams theory exams would be conducted for 80 marks theory and 20 marks for internal.

In science courses, practicals would be held for 30 marks for both first and second year. For MEC stream, mathematics 150 marks is reduced to 100 with 80 marks for theory and 20 for internal assessment.

In addition, the Chemistry portion has been reduced by 30% and 20% reduction in few other subjects.

In the Telugu language and history topics related to Telangana have been included.

All the changes are made in aligning with the NCERT syllabus and also keeping in mind students preparing for the JEE and NEET UG.

The textbooks translations are being simultaneously and re-verified without making any errors, said an official.

From the next academic year all the textbooks will be printed in colour and the paper quality is also being enhanced, the official added.

QR codes are also added in books to help students to access the topics for the additional material when scanned with a smartphone.
