Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Jagtial on High Alert for Floods
Collectors visit flood-hit areas, fishermen advised to be cautious
Karimnagar: Following heavy rainfall and forecasts of more showers, district collectors in Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, and Jagtial have instructed officials and the public to remain on high alert. After inspecting overflowing streams, lakes, and flood-affected areas, they issued key warnings to ensure safety and prevent loss of life in their respective districts.
In Bhupalpally, collector Rahul Sharma inspected the Moranchapalli stream and issued a red alert for people living in nearby villages. He directed all staff to remain at their headquarters and oversee safety measures. He emphasised the need to identify low-lying areas, restrict travel on submerged roads, move people and livestock to safe and elevated locations, place barricades on waterlogged roads to prevent crossing attempts, and set up a 24-hour control room at the collector’s office for emergencies.
Mulugu district collector T.S. Divakar issued a strong warning to all fishermen’s and tribal cooperative societies, stating that tanks and lakes were overflowing and that no nets or traps should be placed under the bunds as this could cause breaches. He also prohibited fishing in the Godavari River, reservoirs, streams, and lakes, warning that violators would face action under the National Disaster Management Act, 2005.
Jagtial collector B. Satya Prasad inspected several flood-affected areas, including low-level bridges in Anantharam and Neredla, as well as the Godavari River area in Dharmapuri. He instructed officials to be in the field round-the-clock, directing departments including electricity, revenue, police, and roads and buildings to work together to identify dangerous drains and take immediate action. He ordered the evacuation of people from old and dilapidated buildings, inspections of tanks and projects for leaks followed by immediate repairs, and the clearance of fallen trees from roads. He warned that negligent officials would face strict action.
Collector Satya Prasad also advised devotees visiting the Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple at Dharmapuri to exercise extreme caution and avoid entering the Godavari River for bathing due to the heavy water flow. A 24-hour control room has been set up at the Jagtial Collectorate, and the public can call 96660 23438 in case of emergencies, he added.
