Hyderabad: Beer prices could rise by at least 15 per cent, with the state government allowing Telangana Beverages Corporation Ltd (TGBCL) to implement the three-member price fixation committee’s (PFC) recommendations.

The revised rates will apply to stocks held by IMFL (Indian Made Foreign Liquor) depots including the stock in transit.

The delay in revision of rates occurred as the term of the earlier committee ended a few months back. The increase comes close on the heels of a controversy surrounding the UB Group, the maker of the Kingfisher and Heineken beer, suspended the supply of beer to TGBCL seeking an increase in prices.

After agreeing to resume supplies, the company informed the National Stock Exchange that it is in constructive discussion with TGBCL, which assured to address its issues on pricing and outstanding payments in a time-bound manner. “Until we get more information, basis assurances, we have decided to restart our supplies to TGBCL for the time being. This is an interim decision in the interest of consumers, workers and stakeholders,” the UB Group had stated.
