BC Candidates Win Big in Sarpanch Polls

Backward Classes secure a major share of unreserved posts across four districts

Adilabad: Candidates belonging to Backward Classes (BCs) won a significant number of general-category seats in the gram panchayat sarpanch elections held in the erstwhile Adilabad district and adjoining districts.

In Adilabad district, there are a total of 473 sarpanch posts, of which 23 are reserved for BCs and 197 are general seats. BC candidates won 57 general seats in addition to the 23 reserved seats, taking their total tally to 80 sarpanch posts.

In Nirmal district, out of 400 sarpanch seats, 72 are reserved for BCs and 186 are general seats. BC candidates secured victory in 105 general seats besides the 72 reserved seats, accounting for a total of 177 sarpanch posts.

Mancherial district has 306 sarpanch seats, including 23 reserved for BCs and 137 general seats. BC candidates won 78 general seats in addition to the reserved seats, bringing their total to 101 Ssarpanch posts.

Similarly, in Komaram Bheem Asifabad district, there are 335 sarpanch seats, of which 20 are reserved for BCs and 85 are general seats. BC candidates emerged victorious in 50 general seats along with the reserved seats, securing a total of 70 sarpanch posts.

Sources said the results reflect strong electoral support for BC candidates beyond reservation categories across the districts.
