Basheerbagh Commuters Renew Demand For Two-Way Traffic
Hyderabad commuters seek the restoration of two-way traffic at Basheerbagh Chowrasta, citing long detours and parking on the restricted stretch.
Commuters have once again urged the traffic police to restore two‑way movement at Basheerbagh Chowrasta, where one‑way restrictions have been in place for more than two years. The stretch from King Koti towards Basheerbagh, passing Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and proceeding to Liberty and the Police Control Room, currently allows only one‑way traffic.
Motorists from Ramkote, Narayanguda, Himayatnagar, Old MLA Quarters and Hyderguda are unable to turn right towards LB Stadium, Gunfoundry and Abids, forcing them into long detours. Commuters said part of the road, after being made one‑way, has been used for parking by nearby offices and commercial establishments.
Traffic police introduced the restriction citing high volumes and the need to ease bottlenecks and prevent gridlock in one of the city’s busiest commercial and historic corridors.
Pathri Vikram, zonal head of a financial firm, said: “I don’t find a reason for making it one‑way while the other side is used for parking. A long U‑turn near the Police Control Room is inconvenient. The police should reconsider making it two‑way.”
Asif Khan, a resident of King Koti, added: “At this junction there is hardly any overspill of traffic. One‑way movement is giving a tough time to regular commuters. It could be restricted only during peak hours and relaxed otherwise.”
He said lifting the restriction at this historic junction would bring relief to thousands forced into long U‑turns. Efforts to obtain a response from Hyderabad City Traffic Police were unsuccessful.
