Barcoded OMR Sheets To Plug Inter Exams Loophole
New system embeds student details to prevent subject and language mismatches
Hyderabad: The Telangana Board of Intermediate Education (TGBIE) has decided to introduce barcoded OMR sheets for the upcoming Intermediate Public Examinations (IPE), embedding each student’s credentials directly onto the sheet.
Until last year, blank OMR sheets were distributed. Students often changed languages or subjects inside the exam hall — particularly when errors appeared on hall tickets. This led to confusion during evaluation, with mismatches between hall ticket details and the actual paper attempted. “Such cases forced the board to withhold results until the discrepancies were resolved,” a senior TGBIE official said.
Under the new system, the barcoded OMR sheet will be attached to the answer booklet, ensuring seamless verification.
Meanwhile, the board has sent hall ticket previews to nearly 10 lakh students on Saturday, asking them to confirm details before final issuance. The preview serves as the student’s confirmation.
For parents without smartphones, the preview can be checked through the college principal. The hall ticket preview carries all details except the hall ticket number and exam centre. As in previous years, a QR code will be embedded on the final hall ticket to help students locate their exam centre.
