Hyderabad: A Banjara Hills Sub-Inspector (SI) and Yadadri Legal Metrology Inspector were caught in separate bribe cases.

The sleuths of Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) booked a case of criminal misconduct against the SI Kottoor Vijay, who initially demanded a bribe of Rs.10 lakh from the complainant, which was subsequently reduced and finally settled at Rs.1 lakh.

The bribe was demanded for doing official favour for not arresting the complainant in connection with a court-referred case booked at Banjara Hills police station, issuing notices and accepting the replies submitted by the complainant to the notices.

Further, the bribe was demanded for assisting the complainant by ensuring that no fresh cases were registered against him in connection with the matter. The SI acted improperly and dishonestly in the discharge of his official duties, with an intention to obtain undue advantage for himself, a statement issued by the ACB said.

It further stated the SI was being produced before the special court for ACB cases in Nampally for judicial remand. The case is under investigation. The details of the complainant are withheld for security reasons.

In a separate case, the ACB caught K. Venkateswarlu, Inspector, Legal Metrology of Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, when he demanded and accepted the bribe amount of Rs.20,000 from the complainant through Kasaram Ravinder, a private person, as a reward for having already issued the verification certificate and for handing over the daily sales register of the complainant's petrol bunk.

As per the instructions of the Inspector, Ravinder accepted the bribe of Rs.20,000 from the complainant at L.B. Nagar, out of which Rs.15,000 was intended for the Inspector and Rs.5,000 for Ravinder. The tainted bribe amount of Rs.20,000 was recovered from the possession of Ravinder.
