Warangal: The bandh called by the Adivasi Hakkula Porata Samiti (Tudum Debba) in protest against Government Order No. 49 passed off peacefully on Monday in Kothagudem mandal of Mahbubabad district. Several shops, businesses, and commercial establishments in the mandal voluntarily shut their doors, demonstrating widespread support for the protest.
State and district unit leaders of Tudum Debba staged a demonstration at the Kornebally Veersham statue in the mandal headquarters, led by mandal president M. Venkatesh.
Addressing the gathering, district unit president Paiyam Koteshwara Rao alleged that GO No. 49 undermines Adivasi rights under the guise of the “Komaram Bheem Conservation Corridor” project, introduced by both the Central and state governments, and demanded its immediate revocation. He described the order as “anti people” and detrimental to Adivasi well being.
Koteshwara Rao criticised both the BJP and Congress governments, accusing them of toying with the lives of innocent Adivasis. He warned that implementing GO 49 would strip Adivasis of their land rights and threaten the community’s very existence.
He added that if the government fails to revoke GO 49, Tudum Debba, along with other people’s organisations, will intensify their agitation and besiege government offices across the state. Finally, he thanked businesses and commercial establishments for their voluntary participation and support.
