Balanagar accident: Police constable was not drunk, says DCP

Hyderabad: Balanagar Deputy Commissioner of Police, K Suresh Kumar, on Monday said that a detailed investigation would be conducted into the road accident at IDPL junction in Balanagar on Sunday afternoon.

He said necessary action would be taken against officers concerned after the enquiry.

Kumar said an unfortunate incident occurred in Balanagar police station limits on April 13, 2025 at about 12.30 pm in Indiragandhi Nagar. A bike rider Joshu Babu when being stopped by traffic police constable A. Gopal for traffic challan realization tried to evade the same.

In the process, he hit another bike and subsequently was hit by an RTC bus, resulting in his demise.

Kumar said some news articles were circulating in the media and social media that the traffic constable was in a drunken state and that he assaulted the deceased. A breathalyzer test and blood test were taken to the traffic constable and there was no alcohol found in his blood.

Video footage available with police was shared with the family members of the deceased. In the video, there was no assault on the biker by the constable. He said a case under Section 106(1) of BNS has been registered in the matter and a detailed investigation will be undertaken.

Necessary action will be taken on the officers concerned after enquiry, he added.
