Bahubali Motors Pump Water to Mid Manair Dam
Eight giant pumps lift Godavari water from Yellampalli to Mid Manair to store flood inflows
Karimnagar: Officials of the irrigation department began pumping water from the Kaleshwaram Link-2 Yellampalli Project on Thursday using four Bahubali motor pumpsets, following heavy inflows from upstream caused by recent rains and the release of water from the Kadem Project in Peddapalli district.
On Wednesday, three motors, numbers 2, 4, and 5, were started at the Nandi Pump House in Nandi Medaram. With the rise in water levels in the Godavari River and the opening of gates at the Kadem Project, officials activated another motor (number 6) at 7.30 am on Thursday.
The four Bahubali motor pumpsets are releasing approximately 12,600 cubic feet per second (cusecs) of water to the Sri Raja Rajeshwari Reservoir (Mid Manair Dam), with each motor capable of pumping about 3,150 cusecs.
The released water travels from the Nandi Pump House through twin tunnels to the Gayatri Pump House in Ramadugu mandal, Karimnagar district. From there, it is pumped to the MMD using another four motor pumpsets.
In total, eight motor pumpsets, four at Nandi Pump House and four at Gayatri Pump House, are currently operating to lift and supply water from the Yellampalli Project to the MMD.
This operation is part of Link-2 of the Kaleshwaram Project. Other components of the project under Link-1 remain inactive due to damage at the Medigadda Barrage and pending reports from the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA).
