Hyderabad: The animation, visual effects, gaming and comics (AVGC) sector has welcomed the Union Budget proposals to establish AVGC content creator labs in 15,000 secondary schools and 500 colleges. Industry experts said that the decision will boost talent development, and bridge the industry’s growing skills gap.

The initiative will be rolled out with support from the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies of Mumbai, and is a part of a broader focus on strengthening India’s ‘orange economy’. The sector is projected to require more than two million skilled professionals by 2030.

Industry leaders described the plan as a timely boost for skill development and long-term growth.

Akshat Rathee, managing director and co-founder of NODWIN Gaming, welcomed the focus on building a robust talent pipeline. “The government’s backing reflects a clear commitment to equipping young Indians with future-ready skills in animation, gaming and storytelling,” he said, stressing that such initiatives would widen the talent pool and accelerate original intellectual property and high-quality game development.

Experts said the labs were set to transform how creative vocations are introduced to students. P. Pradeep, director of a Hyderabad-based VFX firm, said, “It will be very helpful for students to learn and understand content creation and its arts from the grass-roots level. The curriculum must be diverse enough to let the student use their creativity to develop themselves.”

The industry believes that the content creator labs will improve the flow of skilled talent into the animation and VFX ecosystem.
