Hyderabad:Many people from Hyderabad who had planned vacations to the Kashmir valley are now reconsidering their decision following the dastardly terror attack at Pahalgam on Tuesday.

Many people from Hyderabad visit Kashmir every year. The recent completion of the Udhampur–Srinagar–Baramulla rail link project had connected the Kashmir Valley with the rest of India, making train journeys to the region far more convenient.

“I saw the news — it was shocking,” said Shashi Bhushan, an NRI from Charlotte in the US, with his roots in Hyderabad. “Our family was planning to visit Kashmir in the first week of June after attending my niece’s wedding in Hyderabad. But now, with the region turning unsafe, we’re unsure whether we’ll go, especially since our children would be accompanying us.”

Ritesh, Kaushik, and his friends from Boggulkunta were planning to visit Vaishno Devi and later Srinagar in May, but after this incident, they are reconsidering their plans.

The attack occurred near Pahalgam, one of Kashmir's prime tourist destinations, which will have a ripple effect on the Kashmir economy and people’s livelihood.

“We are tribals from this region. Our lives revolve around tourists. There are over 10,000 horse handlers in this area, and their families depend entirely on tourism,” said Saleem, a horse handler from Sonamarg.
