Karimnagar:While most people fear the very mention of death, an 80-year-old man in Jagtial district has chosen to confront it with calm acceptance. In a move that has surprised many, the elderly man has spent ₹12 lakh to build his own tomb while still in good health at Lakshmipuram village in Jagtial rural mandal.

The man, identified as Nakka Indraiah, has two children and built the tomb two years ago. Far from viewing it with sadness, he regularly visits his future resting place, finding a sense of peace in his preparation.

Indraiah did not opt for a simple structure. Using high-quality marble, he constructed a well-designed tomb next to the grave of his late wife, symbolising what villagers describe as a moving expression of eternal companionship.

Unlike most people who avoid graveyards, Indraiah treats the place almost like a retreat. He visits it daily to clean the surroundings, sweep and polish the marble, water the trees planted nearby and sit quietly for some time before returning home.

Speaking about his decision, Indraiah said he felt contentment rather than fear. A builder by profession in his younger days, he described the tomb as his final project. “I built four or five houses, a school spread over 20 acres and a church in this village. Now I have built my own tomb. It gives me great happiness,” he said.

He added that while many associate graves with sorrow, he saw it as an inevitable reality of human life. His belief that nothing truly belongs to anyone till the end has made him a local talking point, with residents of Lakshmipuram and nearby villages frequently discussing his unusual choice.

By acknowledging death while he is still healthy, Indraiah believes he has freed himself from the fear surrounding it.
