Hyderabad: The monsoon session of the Assembly commenced on Saturday, with the House adjourning for the day following the passage of a condolence motion for late Jubilee Hills MLA Maganti Gopinath, who passed away in June.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy moved the condolence motion, stating: “The House places on record its deep sense of sorrow at the demise of Maganti Gopinath and conveys its deep sympathy to the members of the bereaved family.” Recalling Gopinath long political journey, the Chief Minister described his death as an irreparable loss.

Revanth Reddy paid highlighted Gopinath’s political legacy, highlighting his active role in student politics and his service with the Telugu Desam (TD) starting in 1983. Gopinath, who held several important positions, including director of Hyderabad Urban Development Authority and president of the District Consumer Forum, was a staunch follower of N.T. Rama Rao. Revanth Reddy noted that despite ideological differences, he shared a close bond with Gopinath, who represented Jubilee Hills for three consecutive terms and was also involved in film production.

Legislative affairs minister D. Sridhar Babu, BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao, BJP MLA K. Venkataramana Reddy, and AIMIM MLA Ahmed Bin Balala, among others, also paid tribute. Rama Rao recalled Gopinath's contribution to marginalised communities in Jubilee Hills. Despite representing an affluent constituency, Gopinath worked tirelessly for the welfare of underprivileged areas like Borabanda, Rahmathnagar, and Yousufguda, said Rama Rao, affectionately calling him "Gopanna." He further praised Gopinath’s unwavering loyalty to the BRS.

Several other legislators, including BJP’s Katipally Venkata Ramana Reddy and BRS members Talasani Srinivas Yadav and Vemula Prashanth Reddy, also remembered Gopinath for his kindness and deep connection with the people.

Defected BRS MLAs, including Kadiyam Srihari, Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, Tellam Venkat Rao, Arekepudi Gandhi took their seats in the last row of Opposition benches, away from BRS benches, while BJP's suspended Goshamahal MLA T Raja Singh, , was seen exchanging pleasantries with BJP legislators in the House.
