Hyderabad: In a joint operation, the Telangana EAGLE Force (Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement) and the Gachibowli police on Wednesday raided a private residence and apprehended five persons, including an Armed Reserve Police constable, for consuming marijuana.
The accused were identified as Meghender, a freelance bartender; Tejeshwar, a food and beverages manager; Sai Prasad, a manager at Manohar hotel; Ramesh, a learning and development manager; and T. Ravi, an ARPC attached to the City Armed Reserve (CAR) headquarters, Hyderabad.
According to the police, four of the accused were classmates who completed their hotel management degree in 2019, while the fifth is a common friend. The group reportedly picked up the addiction during a classmate’s wedding and had been using the substance since.
The group gathered at Room No. 309 of Kove Stays in Masjid Banda to celebrate a reunion. Acting on specific intelligence, the EAGLE Force and local police conducted a surprise raid. While seven persons were found consuming liquor and a thorough search of the premises yielded no physical traces of narcotics, the officials conducted spot urine drug tests on all
attendees.
Five of the seven tested positive for ganja and subsequently confessed to having consumed the drug a day prior. The police have registered a case (Cr.No.41/2026) at the Gachibowli police station, director EAGLE Force Sandeep Shandilya said.
The EAGLE Force issued an appeal to the public, particularly parents and youth, to cooperate in the "Nasha Mukt Telangana" initiative. They urged
citizens to report drug-related activities to the toll-free number 1908 or WhatsApp 87126 71111, promising that the identity of informants would be kept confidential, a press release issued by EAGLE Force director Sandeep Shandilya stated.
