AP Farmer Held in Shameerpet for Selling BT-3 Cotton Seeds

The police said the use of prohibited and spurious cotton seeds may result in soil pollution, crop failure, and heavy financial losses to farmers

Hyderabad: The Malkajgiri Special Operations Team (SOT) nabbed a person for illegally transporting and selling banned BT-3 cotton seeds.

As many as 100 kgs of cotton seeds were seized from the possession of Dasari Srinivasa Rao (58), a farmer and native of Chebrolu village in Andhra Pradesh. Based on information, the police along with officials of the Agriculture department caught him near Shamirpet ORR exit number seven while he was illegally possessing and attempting to sell banned BT-3 cotton seeds.

During enquiry, the accused disclosed that he, along with his associate Dasari Suri Babu, procured the seeds from one Srinivas Rao at a low price with the intention of selling them to farmers and fertilizer shops in and around Hyderabad for higher profits, according to press release.

Srinivas Rao of Madanapalli and his associate Dasari Suri Babu of Ravinuthala village in Prakasam district are absconding. The police said that the use of such prohibited and spurious cotton seeds may result in soil pollution, crop failure, and heavy financial losses to farmers.
