Hyderabad:Students and civil society groups protested outside the Chief Electoral Officer’s office at BRKR Bhavan on Monday against the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and restrictions on anti-SIR demonstrations in Delhi. They demanded restoration of the 2025 voter lists and scrutiny of deletion requests.

Former IAS officer Akunuri Murali said the Telangana People’s Front (TPF) organised the protest, which attracted 70 to 80 people, including volunteers and members of other civil society groups. Their demands included an independent audit of 28,870 Form-7 applications and publication of booth-wise verification and deletion data.

Murali said they also wanted the repeal of the 2023 law governing appointments of the Chief Election Commissioner and other election commissioners. He criticised police deployment, Metro Rail closures and alleged internet restrictions during demonstrations in Delhi.

He also invoked Article 19(1)(b), which protects peaceful assembly. “How come they can just stop the right of the citizens to protest?” he asked.
