Hyderabad: The state government has announced plans to develop Dr B.R. Ambedkar Bhavan near Tank Bund into a state-of-the-art Ambedkar Knowledge Centre and to redevelop the Babu Jagjivan Ram Students’ Hostel Complex at Nimboli Adda, Kachiguda, into a modern residential campus for students.

The two projects will be taken up with an allocation of Rs 50 crore and are aimed at supporting students from Scheduled Castes and other underprivileged sections.

Officials said the proposed Knowledge Centre will include a modern library, digital learning infrastructure, e-library facilities, coaching centres for Civil Services, Group Services, banking, SSC and railway examinations, along with career counselling and skill development programmes. It is intended to improve access to academic resources, particularly for students from rural and economically weaker backgrounds.

The Nimboli Adda hostel complex will be upgraded with improved residential facilities and study spaces to provide a better academic environment for students coming to Hyderabad from different districts for higher education.

Social welfare minister Adluri Lakshman Kumar said the initiative was a tribute to B.R. Ambedkar’s vision of education as a means of social change.

He said the government aimed to ensure that students from remote areas have access to equal opportunities and that under Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Telangana was committed to building an inclusive educational ecosystem.
