All 26 Gates Of Nagarjunasagar Project Opened
Water releases included 1,540 cusecs to the NSP Right Canal, while no water was released to the Left Canal or Low-Level Canal. About 28,988 cusecs were discharged through the main powerhouse, and 2,400 cusecs were released into the AMRP Canal, taking the total outflow to 2,37,262 cusecs: Reports
NALGONDA: With a constant inflow of 1.7 lakh cusecs of water into the Nagarjunasagar Project (NSP), all 26 crest gates were lifted to a height of five feet on Thursday, releasing 2,04,334 cusecs downstream.
At 4.30 p.m., dam engineers raised all crest gates, considering the steady high inflow and rising water level. The reservoir level stood at 587.7 feet, against the full reservoir level (FRL) of 590 feet, with a storage of 305.9 TMC ft. Until 4 pm, only four crest gates were open to a height of five feet.
Water releases included 1,540 cusecs to the NSP Right Canal, while no water was released to the Left Canal or Low-Level Canal. About 28,988 cusecs were discharged through the main powerhouse, and 2,400 cusecs were released into the AMRP Canal, taking the total outflow to 2,37,262 cusecs.
At the Pulichinthala Project, five of the 11 crest gates were lifted to four metres and one gate to 2.5 metres, releasing 1,84,034 cusecs downstream. The project received an inflow of 2,71,400 cusecs, with the water level recorded at 151.77 feet against the FRL of 169 feet.
In Suryapet district, Krishna water from Pulichinthala reached the Sri Lakshminarsimha Swamy temple at Mattapally. Water was being pumped out from the temple premises using two motors. All pushcart ghats along the river were submerged. In August 2020, the temple was submerged under seven feet of water for four days, forcing priests to perform pujas in neck-deep water.
In Nalgonda district, two crest gates of the Musi Project at Kethepally were lifted to a height of two feet, releasing 7,263 cusecs downstream. No water was released to the project’s right or left canals. The water level reached 642 feet, close to the FRL of 645 feet.
