AIMES, Minority Institutions Urge Govt To Revise SSC Exam Schedule
The organisations said gaps of two to three days between papers would affect students’ focus and increases anxiety at a crucial stage: Reports
HYDERABAD: The All-India Muslim Educational Society (AIMES) and the Confederation of Minority Institutions have requested the state government and the Directorate of School Education to revise the SSC public examination timetable for March. According to them, the current schedule, stretching for nearly a month, placed unnecessary strain on Class X students.
The organisations said gaps of two to three days between papers would affect students’ focus and increases anxiety at a crucial stage. “Long gaps between examinations are academically counterproductive and cause distraction and stress among Class X students, who perform best when exams are conducted continuously or with minimal gaps, as was the practice earlier,” said M.S. Farooq, general secretary of AIMES and president of COMI.
They also pointed out that the schedule overlaps with the last phase of Ramzan and Id-ul-Fitr. During this period, students who observe fasting follow altered routines, spend longer hours in prayer and experience physical fatigue. Conducting examinations at this time, they said, places additional pressure on students and their families.
The organisations clarified that their request was not limited to one community. Several festivals of non-Muslim communities also fell during the same period, when families were involved in religious observances, travel and gatherings, which could disrupt exam preparation.
Schools functioning as examination centres faced difficulties due to a month-long examination cycle, while parents and students deal with added logistical problems and rising temperatures in March and April. The AIMES and COMI asked the government to reschedule the examinations after Id-ul-Fitr, likely about March 19, and return to the earlier system of continuous examinations.
