NALGONDA: Members of the All-India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA), Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and Students’ Federation of India (SFI) on Monday demanded the immediate arrest of Bandi Sai Bageerath, son of Union minister of state for home affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar, over allegations of intoxicating and sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl.

The organisations staged a protest at the new bus stand centre in Khammam and burnt an effigy of Sai Bageerath.

AIDWA district secretary B. Padma said the police should act in accordance with the law and ensure immediate arrest. She said the principle of equality before the law must be upheld and referred to previous allegations of ragging and physical assault involving the accused during his college days. She also alleged that a “honey trap” narrative was being used to evade the case.

DYFI district secretary Boddu Madhu and SFI district secretary Thudum Praveen also participated in the protest.

Police response on the allegations was not immediately available.
