Adilabad Set to Soar with Rs 5,500-Cr Airport

Hyderabad:The approval of the Adilabad Airport is not just a milestone for one district but a major opportunity for the integrated development of north Telangana, BJP MLA Payal Shankar said on Monday.

Addressing a press conference at the BJP state office, Shankar said the proposed joint-user airport, to be developed by the Defence Ministry and the Airports Authority of India (AAI), would mark a new chapter in the development of the backward Adilabad region.

He said the state government had issued a GO allocating ₹2,278 crore for the project, while the Defence Ministry would contribute around ₹3,000 crore, taking the total project cost to about ₹5,500 crore. The project, he said, was the result of coordinated efforts by the Centre and the state government.

Recalling promises made during the elections, Shankar credited visits by Union home minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi with bringing national attention to Adilabad's development needs. He alleged that the erstwhile united Adilabad district, despite its rich mineral resources, fertile agricultural land and strong cotton market, had been neglected during the previous BRS government.

Shankar also announced plans to establish the state’s second-largest industrial park near Adilabad. He said 2,200 acres had already been notified, while clearances were being fast-tracked for an additional 6,000 acres.

The proposed airport and industrial corridor, he said, would transform Adilabad into a national logistics and cargo hub, boosting the textiles, agro-processing and tourism sectors while creating employment and promoting tribal skill development.

Shankar thanked Modi, Union ministers G. Kishan Reddy, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu and defence minister Rajnath Singh, along with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, for their support. He said the foundation stone for the project would be laid soon in the presence of the Prime Minister, Union ministers and the Chief Minister.
